Reader To Reader and Barnes & Noble Booksellers
Ring in the Holidays With Holiday Book Drive
Hadley, MA – November 30, 2003 – Reader To Reader is celebrating the holiday season with a special Holiday Book Drive at the Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Hadley, Massachusetts.
A special display at the Hadley store helps Reader To Reader aid some of the neediest elementary schools in Massachusetts. Stocked full of titles requested by several Springfield and Holyoke elementary schools, the display is a convenient way for customers to help these under-resourced schools while saving 10% off the price of every book they donate.
“Barnes & Noble continues to find new ways to help the Reader To Reader program,” says Reader To Reader executive director David Mazor. “Deberry Elementary and the Holyoke Alternative Program are among the poorest schools in Massachusetts, so these books will really make a difference.”
Among the titles requested by Springfield’s William N. Deberry Elementary School and Holyoke’s Holyoke Alternative Program are Stuart Little, Charlotte's Web, Hatchet, Chrysanthemum, Lilly & the Purple Plastic, Owen, Mr. Lincoln's, My Rotten Red Headed Older Brother, Pink & Say, Shrinking of Tree Horn, Snowy Day, Peter's Chair, Whistle for Willie and Keeping Quilt.
The in-store display went up just before Thanksgiving and will remain in the store through December 24th. Visit the store display to help benefit these schools with your donation.
Reader To Reader, Inc., a public charity bringing books to under-resourced school libraries across the U.S., is teaming with Barnes & Noble Booksellers to bring thousands of books and special needs money to Springfield and Holyoke’s public schools.
Formed in 2002 to help needy schools across the country, Reader To Reader, Inc., has already donated thousands of books to Springfield's public schools over the past year, helping them fill critical resource needs for books on science, history, art, literature, popular fiction, and a host of other subjects.
Under a Barnes & Noble Booksellers Sponsorship announced in October 2003, Barnes & Noble Booksellers will donate thousands of new books to Reader To Reader. In addition, Barnes & Noble Booksellers will provide $1,000 to be used by Massachusetts schools for special book purchases. Reader To Reader, Inc. will distribute the monies to schools that have shown exceptional commitment to strengthening the quality of education and literacy at their school.
