Reader To Reader Awarded Grant For Wayne County Book Project

Amherst, MA – December 27, 2003 – Reader To Reader, Inc. has been awarded a $1,000 grant from the David Katz Foundation to fund the first year of its Wayne County Elementary Book Project. The project will bring books to the school libraries of three Wayne County, Pennsylvania elementary schools located in the towns of Ariel, Hamlin and Waymart. The schools are Lake Ariel Elementary School, Hamlin Elementary School and R.D. Wilson Elementary School.

Reader To Reader aids schools that have a high percentage of their students living below the poverty line, and all three of the schools have a higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (a key indicator of poverty) than the state average.

“We are grateful to the David Katz Foundation for this grant and we anticipate bringing hundreds of children’s books to these schools,” notes Reader To Reader’s executive director David Mazor. “It is our goal to enrich their libraries in order to help educate and inspire their students.”

Reader To Reader, Inc. is a public charity that brings books free of charge to under-resourced school libraries across the United States. Founded in 2002, Reader To Reader serves over 70 schools across the country by recycling used books that are in top condition so that they can find new homes in school libraries.
