Hall of Fame Book Drive Nets Mountain of BooksAmherst, MA (March 29, 2004) - Reader to Reader, Inc. now has a mountain of new children’s books to deliver free to needy schools across the U.S. thanks to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame book drive. For two weeks in March the Basketball Hall of Fame and Reader to Reader Inc. teamed up to help underfunded local libraries fill their shelves with gently used children's books. The result was a slam-dunk with well over 1,000 children’s books collected. "The Hall of Fame really came through for us," says Reader To Reader’s executive director David Mazor. Their generosity and enthusiasm for this project will not only help us reach the existing schools in our program, but we are adding new schools in the next two weeks because of this wonderful supply of gently used children’s books. In addition to the staff of the Hall of Fame, I want to thank Janet Edwards of Edwards Books for serving as an additional drop-off point, and Topor Dodge for offering Springfield Falcons hockey tickets to donors. It was a great team effort.” Reader To Reader, Inc., winner of the 2004 Pioneer Valley Literacy Award, is an Amherst based public charity that brings books free of charge to under-resourced school libraries across the United States. Founded in 2002, Reader To Reader serves over 80 schools across the country by recycling used books that are in good condition so that they can find new homes in school libraries.
