Reader To Reader Receives CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust Award
Amherst, MA – March 14, 2005 – Amherst-based literacy organization Reader To Reader, Inc. has been awarded a grant from The CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust, the private foundation managed by CVS Corporation (NYSE: CVS). The award supports Reader to Reader’s ongoing work in the inner-city public schools of Massachusetts, particularly in schools with no or out-of-date libraries. The CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust, the private foundation managed by CVS Corporation (NYSE: CVS), announced today that it has awarded $66,000 in grants to eight non-profit organizations in Massachusetts. The grant is part of 1.7 million dollars in grant funds provided by CVS/pharmacy’s charitable foundation to 76 organizations across the country. “We want to thank The CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust for this award, which helps us aid 24 Massachusetts schools located in inner-city Boston, Worcester, Springfield and Holyoke,” says Reader To Reader’s executive director David Mazor. “CVS is a leader in corporate giving that truly has an impact on bettering people’s lives.” “We are pleased to support these very worthy charities that are working hard in our communities to improve people’s lives,” said Eileen Howard Dunn, Vice President of the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust. “A CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust grant is an effective way for us to give back to the communities where we do business,” stated Howard Dunn. Grants were awarded to organizations dedicated to healthcare, education and community engagement. “The foundation focuses on those projects that clearly demonstrate they are meeting a need within the community, and where collaborative efforts and measurement tools are in place to track success. We are confident that each of the non-profits we chose to work with in the coming year will create positive change and influence in the communities we serve together,” said Howard Dunn. In many cases, CVS/pharmacy associates become involved with grantees by providing volunteer assistance, participating in other fund-raisers and assisting in outreach and education services. Reader To Reader, Inc. is a public charity that brings books free of charge to under-resourced school libraries across the United States. The award-winning organization serves over 160 schools in 26 states by recycling used books that are in top condition so that they can find new homes in school libraries.
