Dear Friend of Reader To Reader,
I hope you enjoy this newsletter about the Reader To Reader Book Project. Our success is very much due to your donations of books, postage money, and most of all your generous spirit. Please forward this newsletter and help us spread the word.
One thing that is so hard to put into a newsletter is the joy on the
faces of kids reading a book they love. Many times I have had the
pleasure of delivery books to a school and watching the kids excitedly
explore each box, pulling out titles like shiny pieces of gold from
a treasure chest.
Recently, I received a stack of letters from some very happy 3rd grade
students at Smith Elementary in Austin, Texas. The demographics at
Smith Elementary are: 68% Hispanic, 22% African-American, and 86%
of the students are eligible for free lunch program. I would like
to share with you their delightful words on their latest book
shipment.
Dear Reader To Reader,
Thank you for sending the book “How to talk to your Dog” because
I have a dog, but I don’t know how to talk to my dog. And I think
that the book is going to help me talk to my dog. Thank you for
sending those books, I think that is nice.
Thank you sincerely,
Margarita

Dear Reader To Reader,
Thanks for the book about pirates. I feel happy to learn about
it. It shows me how to make a boat. Everyone got to check one
out and I chose “Pirates” and this one was my favorite one.
Sincerely,
Kenny
Dear Reader To Reader,
Thanks for sending the books. I like the book “Grandma Tells a
Story.” I feel so excited. I could not wait to read. Bye. Hope
you send more books.
Thanks for the books.
Sincerely,
Georgina
Dear Reader To Reader,
All my class likes the books and Smith Elementary is so happy. Today I was
talking to myself and I like the book about the birds and how
they grow and what they eat, and I like the big one. Sorry I have to
go now and look for a book.
Sincerely,
Alejandra
Dear Reader To Reader,
Thank you for sending the book on electric fish of the sea. I like
so many fish. I was so happy because my sister wanted a book on
fish and me too. I will share my book with my cousin and
sisters. Thank you for sending the book to the school.
Sincerely,
Felipe
Dear Reader To Reader,
I like the book “I Am Not Sleepy and I Will Not Go to Bed.” I picked
this book because I think it is a great one to pick and read
because it is so pretty. And I like these others, they’re so
funny. And thanks for sending books. Now, I don’t know you but I
think you are a nice person. Thanks.
Sincerely,
me
Diana
Dear Reader To Reader,
Gracias por los libros. Me siento feliz por lo que nos mando.
Gracias por todo.
Sincerely,
Libni
(Thanks for the books. I feel happy because of what you have given
us. Thank you for everything.)
Dear Reader To Reader,
Thank you for sending this book about “Face-to-Face with the Chicken”
because I have chickens, but they fight, so I wanted to stop the
chickens from fighting. I’m happy because now my chickens will not
be bleeding.
Sincerely,
Ulises
Now what could I possibly add to that? Except perhaps that your
donations make it all possible.
Until next month,
Sincerely,
